Investment Counsellor
Born and raised in the Toronto area, I had the opportunity to experience frequent relocations as my first-generation, university-educated parents sought new and expanded opportunities. These moves, including a two-year stint in Connecticut, taught me to adapt quickly to new environments, understand the nuances of various situations, and find common ground with every new group of peers.
Despite a backdrop of change, a few of the constants in my youth, outside of academics, were commercial pursuits to keep money in my pocket and a keen interest in golf and hockey. I hustled various part-time jobs to restore a 1974 Volkswagen Beetle and get the car in pristine condition by the time I turned 16. On the sports front, summers on the driving range and looping the links with friends were balanced against long seasons of competitive hockey. And yes, the Darien, CT, hockey team was excited when a Canadian showed up to captain the team!
After graduating from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University, which included a semester abroad at WHU in Koblenz, Germany, I began my career on the buy side, representing an Edinburgh-based manager in the North American market. After a couple years of valuable learning and mentorship, I moved to a Toronto-based manager where I helped the firm double its assets during a period of robust organic and market growth. I thrived in the independent, partnership-driven environment and crystalized my passion for smaller, privately held asset management firms. After merging the Canadian firm into a Boston-based global manager, I broadened my strategic playbook leading the Canadian business learning valuable lessons that money managers face as they scale and mature. In this role, I was able to hone my equanimous leadership style, navigating complex challenges with calm, clarity, and a focus on the long-term objectives of clients.
After more than twenty years of experience with both domestic and global firms — large and small, publicly held and privately operated — I was definitive in my quest to circle back to an independent, Canadian-domiciled partnership. In September 2024, I joined Dixon Mitchell to help expand the firm’s reach in the Ontario market and beyond.
When not active with clients and the investment portion of the world, you’re sure to find me spending time in nature with my wife and three sons – golfing, fishing, or embarking on another carpentry project at the Lake!
