I was born in India but immigrated to Canada with my family when I was 10 years old. The move was a piece of cake for the kids, but not so for our parents – like many immigrants, they were forced to transition from professional careers to whatever odd jobs they could find. Needless to say, the dinner table provided plenty of opportunity for sermons on the importance of hard work, the meaning of resiliency and, especially, the value of money. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was also receiving a master class in purchasing power parity!

When high school was complete, I moved on to Simon Fraser University where I began work toward a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Finance. The traditional part of my studies at SFU provided me with a strong theoretical foundation, while participation in the university’s student-run portfolio program taught me the practical side of investing. When my degree was complete, I began my career in the risk department of a large pension fund and later transitioned to the research group at a major investment bank. This experience provided me with the background needed to join Dixon Mitchell’s investment team, where my efforts are focused on our Canadian equity and small-cap portfolios.

Outside of work, my wife and I like to be adventurous in our travels or take just advantage of the many opportunities to be active in the Vancouver area. I most enjoy hiking, running, cycling, and recently even learned how to swim!
